Thursday Night Lights

Bobby Dodd stadium at dusk

Toe meets leather tonight!

New coach, new offense, new seats. The Paul Johnson era and a new season of Georgia Tech football kicks off at 7:30pm and I will be there having the usual "heart versus head" expectation war with myself. (And hopefully enjoying our new-and-improved seats in a slightly higher rent section of the stadium.) Seventy five of our one hundred and ten players are freshmen or sophomores. We've hired a new head coach and he has installed a completely new offense - his unique version of a the spread option. A lot of people say it won't work in a BCS conference, but when pressed they cannot articulate exactly why not. We'll find out soon enough. Georgia Tech might just surprise a few people this year. I hope I am one of them.

Whatever happens, I suspect that football is going to be fun again at The Flats.

I take it you'll be going to the game then? :P

I'm guessing it'll only be fun if they win a few games and aren't subject to many a blowout. Young team and new offense doesn't bode well for that...

Enjoy!

Great photo!

LL - Season tickets, baby! I'm looking to see maximum effort in the games and improvement over the season. We'll probably get waxed early on, especially with the early road games. Things should start to click in October. The offense is young, but we've got a great defensive line, and we're not going to be a one trick pony this year (i.e. no more over-reliance on the blitz). You don't need many points if you can keep the other guys out of the end zone.

dianne - Thanks. Should be fun, except for the rush hour traffic hell of getting there.

I hope you had a great time. Football is not my thing, but I can understand passion for such things.

Before anyone around here gets too excited, though, I just saw a mediocre SEC team beat a good ACC team by 24...

ll - who? JXSU?

kat - I had a great time.

jenny - yes!

dr s - we'll see what happens next week in a conference game on the road.

wa11z - this photo was taken from last year's seats. This year's seats are better. 20 yard line, as opposed to 5, and higher up.

jenny - will do.

dr s - the ACC did not look good this week. Gack!

I don't think the ACC is that bad, the SEC is that good. Kentucky, the fifth-best team in the SEC East, held a pretty good Louisville team to a safety yeaterday. The SEC may have ten bowl-eligible teams this year. I don't like it either, but that's the way it is.

OK, I came here for purely selfish reasons. I only have one disc left to watch of "Six Feet Under" so I was going to see what all the hubbub about Farscape was about and I went to Netflix to order it, but it says I have to wait for an indefinite amount of time for Season 1. Some member said Farscape fans would know what's up. Do you know what's up?

dr s - we'll know more in a week or two. I don't think there should be any football rankings or polls until the third or fourth week of the season.

beth - if I had to guess, I'd say it is because you can't buy Season 1 new right now. Although I have seen used copies listed here and there. If NetFlix cannot replenish their supply, the few copies they have are going to take a long time to go around.
