I've also heard about ladybugs being lucky. Fortunately I didn't kill any today. And nothing bad happened to me. Of course I still have 40 minutes to do until the day is over....
We have a new version of the ladybud here in Michigan and this new version likes to bite - and trust me, those little buggers hurt! Not that I would kill one, but I'm a tad more leery.

Ladybugs are considered lucky in some cultures, so maybe that is the origin of it being bad luck to kill one.
We need to spread the word. I haven't seen one in years. May have to put them on the endangered species list.
