Really Bad Football Picks

This year I decided to share my weekly picks from the prediction contest on a message board I frequent. Meant to do this last week, but got busy and didn't get to it. I'll just give you the Cliff Notes version: I sucked. 2-for-6 and I was wrong about beating the spread on one of those two. (Basically, it doesn't matter what you predict for the actual score - the points come from the score differential compared to the spread.) VT, you're dead to me.

This week, I tried a new tactic: the George Costanza method. Whatever I think will happen or wish would happen, I picked the opposite (except for the Tech game, of course - can't bet against my Jackets). This way, I will either be happy that the games worked out my way, or I will do well in the contest. Win-win for me.

Here goes: Week 2

GT 35 Kansas(+12) 17

UGA(+2.5) 3 USCe 2

FSU(+8.5) 17 Okla 20

Mich(+4) 9 ND 24

Miami(+9.5) 21 Ohio St 28

NCState(+2.5) 14 UCF 10

Now I'm going back to watching the Thursday night game. I'm rooting for MSU, which means they are DOOMED. They'd be in the lead right now if they had stuck with their running game. And the kicker catching his own kickoff was badass. Our kicker has never done that, although he has tackled the returner an alarming number of times. Carry on!

GT 35 Kansas 17? Hahahahahaha!

Now Kansas isn't going to cover the spread of 12, but lose by 18 on top of that? Heart/head my dear... heart/head...

Based on the outcomes of the two games last week, I am guessing that Kansas is only marginally better than SCState, thus we will "only" score 35 and I assumed KU would get one more touchdown than we allowed last week. Our defense is still learning the 3-4, but we have a lot of guns on offense.

And I was right about MSU - I should have turned the channel over to a movie and maybe they would have pulled out the win. :-(

Well, you can still say there is always next week and who knows, maybe your George Castanza methodology will kick in and work for you then. It could happen, ya know!

Jeni - we'll see. Also, I am almost sorry to tell you that I want Penn State to win, thus dooming them to failure just like MSU. I would try rooting for Alabama, but Fate doesn't fall for reverse psychology. I can only root for Alabama with a clean conscience if they are playing UGA.

LL - I just saw that Tony "Mr College Football" Barnhardt picked Tech to win 35-10! He knows a lot more about football than I ever will. I hope he is correct.

Ahhhhh... I misread your post. I thought that Kansas was favored by 12 instead of a 12 point dog. IN which case there's no way that a 12 point fav is going to lose by 18 (a 26 point differential).

So if it's another warm up game for GT... well... I should have known GT wouldn't schedule a good team this early... :ewink:

Kansas was good when we scheduled them. That was before Mangino went berserk, ate half the team and got fired.
