Forget Barry. Check Out Bobby!

After setting a new record for number of career ejections on Tuesday, Bobby Cox continues to ‘improve’ his record. He was tossed from a game for the 133rd time last night. He received a standing ovation from the crowd as he left the field, the fans chanting “Bob-by!”

His outstanding performance and continued determination will insure that his record will not soon be broken. As an added bonus, I am quite certain that no ‘performance enhancing substances’ were ever used by Cox in pursuit of his place in the record books.

Oh yeah… old what’s-his-face hit another homer. His team still lost. Heh.

One of the things I love most about baseball is that it is the only sport where it is culturally accepted (and highly regarded) to yell at the officials, kick dirt on them, throw things in the vicinity of them, etc. Granted you get tossed, but it's sure fun to watch!

Bobby Cox is underrated. He's not somebody who would instantly come to mind when listing the game's great managers, but he's put together quite a record.

If the Braves had only won another series or two in their 90's heyday, there'd be no argument.

Doc, he isn't done yet. Soon maybe, but not yet.

From what I've read about his "record," most of his ejections are the result of him "subsituting" for the player that got the raw call (homer description).

So, um, who is Bobby Cox?

magnetbabe - yeah, that is pretty cool.

dr sardonicus - I agree, and also wish the Braves had had another World Series win or two. But they are so much better than the Braves of my childhood, I will take whatever I can get.

dave - he is already the guy with the longest stretch as manager of one team. I hope he stays even longer.

kat - D'oh! Now it's your turn to break my heart. Bobby Cox. I have only had one baseball card, ever. Who was it? Bobby Cox, in his role as manager of the Braves.

Not to nitpick, but there was once a fellow named Connie Mack...

I'd be willing to guess, though, that Cox holds the Braves' franchise record for most years as manager.

I should have said longest of any current managers. My bad!
