Not so fast there, Adams...

In the waning days of his eight years as our governor, Sonny has finally said something I agree with. Will wonders never cease?

Given our state's budget shortfalls and cuts in education, why on earth should UGA start an engineering program that directly competes with Georgia Tech's College of Engineering? Tech is consistently ranked among the top five engineering programs in the nation. If the state needs to produce more engineers, existing programs could be expanded to serve more students for far less cost than creating one from scratch.

it never ceases to amaze and dismay me how money is wasted

if a good program exists then why invent another one!!

Because GT needs to just be replaced to get rid of that in-state rivalry. :P

Dianne - reading between the lines, they seem to want a state program that Tech flunkouts can go to. But there already are other alternatives in the university system.

LL - We haven't fared well in the football rivalry of late, but I regard the academic rivalry as more important. My livelihood in some part depends on the academic reputation of Georgia Tech. I am glad that it is a big net positive and want to keep it that way.
