Not a Fan

Any hopes of this sports fan branching out into soccer (I refuse to call it "football" because I am southern and American) have been dashed this weekend, and not just because the greatly hyped USA vs. England game ended in a 1-1 tie. No, anyone who has watched even one minute of the World Cup can guess what has me so put off by the experience. Need a hint? Ok.

BbzzzzzzzzzzHHHHMMMMMMMMMMbzzzzzzzzzzzzzzBZZBBZZZZZZ...

Those damn plastic trumpets blew it for me! (Howdya like that pun?) I am not alone in this opinion. The noise from these vuvuzelas is a constant, annoying, irritating din that JUST. NEVER. STOPS. It goes on and on and on during the entire game without any breaks and hardly a change in tone. The din makes me CRAZY. It sounds like an angry hive of giant bees. Can't stand it. And I won't be watching any more games thankyouverymuch. Unless the networks invent a vuvuzela noise filter that cancels it out on their broadcasts. Then... maybe. But then there is that whole "1-1" thing. So maybe not.

Yeah, that sound was horrible! I've read a few tidbits that they are thinking of banning the horns in the stadiums in upcomming games because of all the complaints. Who thought those things would be a good idea??

A ban would be great, because PDM is a soccer fan and has been watching all the games. Thus, I have to endure the buzzy awfulness.

You stole my post fermi...

Can I just put "ditto" and have it count as a post?

That frelling sound drives me absolutely nuts. I can barely stand it, and that's one of the main reasons I can't stand to watch it. Well... that and it's soccer.

As for why they'd do that, I suppose it's because the game is soooo boring they couldn't stand to play in absolute silence so they think that if there's an annoying buzz at least you couldn't hear the crickets chirping. But that stinking buzz... yeesh...

Feel free. Easy post, too.

I might have to find ways to get out of the house on the next few soccer weekends. There's probably a shoe store somewhere that I haven't seen...

Thats why I just wait for the news to post the scores. I cant stand that sound either.

I can't bring myself to care about the scores. I'm only vaguely interested in how the USA does.

Well, Fermi, I guess I won't be inviting you to my vuvuzela circle this weekend. Hmf!
