Wireless?

I'm convinced that the thermostats at work aren't hooked up to anything. They're just there for the placebo effect. My office, and the entire physics hallway, is a meat locker all year 'round. I pried the cover off the nearest thermostat and turned it all the way up, and... nothing. The only place in the whole department that is warm is the breakroom, which is practically a sauna.

In my employer's defense, they tried to do something about the situation. They gave all of us polartec jackets and blankets. I kid you not. And space heaters for all of the offices. They could save so much money if only the climate control system could be brought under control.

Interesting theory...that actually makes sense...we're not allowed to have space heaters, but I can guarantee that half of us have them.

I'm glad they let us have them. I run mine every day.

I woke up cold both Monday and Tuesday morning and this morning I remembered to turn on my blanket last night! Our campus is cold, I bring a blanket into class with me!

I bet that over the course of time they did construction which changed the way the ducts worked and so the themostat means very little in some places

We have a problem like that in my house

In order for it to be warm in the front of the house it has to be a sauna somehwhere else

Dianne has solved your problem. The HVAC system isn't balanced.

Red - I had to go to yet another one of those obligatory lectures the other day in another part of the building and it was worse! I couldn't feel my feet at the end of it. It took me hours to thaw out.

Dianne - that might be it. My office is a weird shape and was obviously once part of a different room. There is this odd soffit running the length of my back wall, kind of off center.

LL - I've got thin southern blood.

Dave - I don't forsee my employer getting this fixed any time soon, especially when their long-term plan has our building being demolished.

Seriously... I can fix this!!! If you want it cooled down, place a candle warmer (cheap $7? junk) over the thermostat. You can hang the warmer with duct tape. Or, something prettier. Too warm it up. Tape a bag of ice to it. NO SHIT!!! It works. I have magical powers to cool or to heat up my whole school that I work at. Enjoy the tip!!!

At my old school we were freezing due to construction at my end of the building. We have a small bathroom in the back of the classroom. If we dont leave the door open, you freeze to the seat.

I have the problem at home where the thermostat is located in the apartment downstairs and they keep turning it up. I run the AC all winter too.
