1975...

...was the last time that Georgia Tech beat FSU. Until tonight. After the game, the students rushed the field. I approve! The team deserves it. They won in spite of being way down into their depth chart because of injuries, both before this game and during it.

swarming the field

Before the game, we had our usual tailgating party. PDM made bite-size Jamaican jerk chicken, and it absolutely ROCKED. You want some, don't you?

And to top off my excellent football weekend, Florida creamed Georgia (sorry Jenny) and got their revenge for that ridiculous stunt that UGA pulled last year. Unlike last weekend, I am looking forward to reading the AJC sports page tomorrow.

Glad to hear you have a good thing to celebrate tonight! When you say the students rushed the field, is that all they did? Reason I ask is you may have heard Penn State has been having problems of late -over the past couple of years -with exuberance over victories turning into a lot of destruction, sometimes rioting or near rioting. I wouldn't object to celebrating -rushing the field, etc., but since so many of the students (and some alumni too) tend to poo-poo the destruction issues, I'm curious as to how other schools handle this stuff. Oh and by the way, check my post tonight in particular for a picture I posted of Kurtis sitting with Chino the kitten. I kind of figure you especially will get a chuckle out of it!

jeni - no violence or mayhem. The kids didn't even pull down the goalposts. Just rushed onto the field to be near the players.

When I saw that they won... somehow I knew there'd be a post about it here...

Well done to Texas Tech too!

dr s - hurts a little less now. And don't count us out against UGA. It is a tall order, but not impossible.

dianne - it was a fun atmosphere. The fans stayed in the stadium much longer than usual!

ll - good call. I usually enjoy upsets, as long as they aren't happening TO my team. We watched part of the Texas game when we finally got home from our game. We stayed on campus for a couple of hours after the game, both to savor the experience and to let traffic die down.

jenny - I never want to make my UGA friends unhappy, so I try to be cool when they are around. This extends to the blogosphere.

shelli - Florida looks very good right now. I am glad they avenged last year's stunt in a classy way. I used to like and respect Mark Richt until that happened. Tech people are happy to be 7-2, because no one would have predicted that with a new coach and a new offense (and we looked terrible during the spring scrimmage). Funny that Tech and UGA have the same record, but their fans are disappointed and ours are happy. I think a high preseason ranking is a lot to live up to. Our preseason ranking was the lowest in the ACC - even lower than Duke. We had nowhere to go but up.
