Scattered, Smothered, Covered, and Peppered.

That's how we like our hash browns at Waffle House. In case any of you were wondering. And that is what we had for breakfast, with our fiesta omelets, this morning.

Oh yeah. Public Service Announcement #427: If you are at a restaurant, even if is just a Waffle House, your fellow diners do NOT want to listen to you sending non-stop text messages "beep beepbeep beep beepbeepbeep, beepbeep beep beepbeepbeep..." so PLEASE TURN THE SOUND OFF on your stupid ass cell phone before you start frantically pushing the damn buttons. THANK you!

The rest of the trip home was fine.

Road Trip

I just wanted to tell you what song popped into my head when I saw your photo.

East bound and down, loaded up and truckin'
a'we gonna do what they say can't be done
We've got a long why to go and a short time to get there
I'm east bound just watch ol'Bandit run

Keep your foot hard on the peddle...son, never mind them brakes
let it all hang out cause we've got a run to make
The boys are thirsty in Atlanta, and there's beer in Texarcana
and we'll bring it back no matter what it takes

I could go on, but now I think I should put this song on my Ipod.

Excellent soundtrack for the road trip! Only these days, we'd be bring back their water... not beer.

Waffle House? Blech.

I hope you had fun visiting with your husband's relatives (seriously), but was it really worth taking out a bank loan to pay for the gas? ;-)

Man... look at all the trees... Now I remember why I didn't like driving through Georgia. Ya cain't see nuthin'!

wa11z - hot breakfast 24 hours a day, AND there is one at every corner? What's not to like?

MW - Chattanooga is only about 120 miles from us, so it wasn't too bad. My car gets good mileage on trips. It is the errands we are going to run in PDM's truck this week that will be expensive, but the stuff we need to transport won't fit in a car.

ll - I love those hills and trees. Hate the billboards...

LL, Hahahahaha!! Thanks for the unsolicited support. I've told Fermi the same thing about all those claustrophobia-inducing trees repeatedly, but I think she's determined to remain charmed by them anyway. ;-D

Fermi, you wouldn't be taking your truck out on a wild spending spree that involves furnishing your new porch, would you? ;-)

I heard somewhere on some comedy show that the Mason-Dixon Line was being updated to the more current IHOP-Waffle House Line. I'd never even heard of Waffle House until my kids and I vacationed in Virginia a bunch of years ago. And now that I've got a son at school in North Carolina, I am more familiar with the place. I was also introduced to Huddle House. Weird but tolerable.

North, South, trees, gas issues? Ya'll are missing the point (though East Bound and Down is close), Fermi isn't a purist. Scattered, at most smothered.

One of these days I'm going to become a cell phone vigalante.

Just walk around ripping them out of people's hands and crushing them.

Glad you had a good trip.

MW - it would take a cave to make me feel claustrophobic. A tiny one you can't even stand up in. A big cave wouldn't do it. And yes, new porch furniture is on the menu this week. But today, we picked up Big Daddy's 60-year old glider and brought it home. Tomorrow we will take it somewhere to have it refurbished.

twg - for me, the line is where I don't have to explain what "sweet tea" means. And nobody thinks you are weird for ordering it in the winter.

dave - scattered is how I feel most days. Smothered and covered days are why we needed a vacation from working.

dianne - I am surprised more people don't go postal about other people's cell phones.

Sunshine, I don't know those lyrics off hand, so can you please tell me who I should be looking for?

I've been singing them lyrics inside my head, pretending they belong to Little Feat, because that's what comes to mind.

Anyway, there was something that caught my eye, and it wasn't just those beautiful tree-lined stretches of motorways. If it weren't for those trees, there'd be nothing!

...Err, oh yes. About them waffles. You know, I never knew how much waffles meant to you peeps, until recently viewing some comments on a forum about how important it is to be continually sustained with Portland waffles.

I'm not normally hungry for waffles, well not about right now... But, I'm starting to wonder whether I'm missing out on something?

I wasn't using claustrophobia literally, but rather only in a satirical sense. You did, however, inadvertently hit on a fairly decent analogy as far as my world view goes (no pun intended). Driving through hundreds of miles of forests would be REMOTELY similar to driving through hundreds of miles of freeway tunnels. The forest is probably a little more colorful, but you can seldom see beyond the "wall" at the edge of the freeway in either case.

And what is this about a glider?!!! You do intend to tell us more about it, right? With pictures?

madre - Waffles can be divine! And about the song - what dr s said...

mw - the glider is an outdoor rocking sofa type of thing, not an aircraft. Just wanted to clear that up.

dr s - you are right. The "Piedmont" part of Georgia is quite different than the "coastal plain" part. The two regions are separated by the "fall line". See... I learned something in elementary school state history class.

Aw, rats!

LOL!

I can still post pictures. It may not fly, but it is an antique. And it should look a whole lot better after being sandblasted to remove all the rust and old paint, and then powder coated to apply a new finish.

Hey Madre!

Try this.

Thank you there LL. 8-)

...And to think as a kid that I used to love eighteen wheelers, especially Kenworths (I think?). Shame on me!

LL & MW are crazy, and would hate Michigan. We love trees lining our highways.

No Waffle House here in Michigan that I know of.

Did you know that McDonald's is now making "sweet tea?" I can't figure out why they're serving it up here. People are leaving Michigan for the South, not the other way around, as far as I know.

Kathleen: LL & MW are crazy, and would hate Michigan. We love trees lining our highways.

MW: Your professional clinical diagnosis aside ;-p, I may or may not agree with you on Michigan, if I ever get a chance to see it. However, I did take a ride through over 700 miles of Wisconsin in 1993 (basically in a giant circle), and I absolutely loved the perfect mixture of forested lands and prairies. There wasn't too much of either one in the areas I visited. It was simply beautiful.

MW: 1.) Maybe because they are a giant corporation that is incapable of adding something to the menu in one region without adding it to the menu in all regions. 2.) Or maybe because the Michigan state government talked them into it in order to stop people from abandoning Michigan and moving south. ;-p
