I was startled awake at 4:20 this morning when my 13-year old cat, Zima, decided to empty her bladder on my pillow right next to my head. If she was trying to get my attention, she definitely succeeded. Her efforts are being rewarded with a trip to the vet this afternoon. I figure this is a result of three possible things: (a) she has a UTI, (b) she is unhappy about being picked on constantly by the other two cats, or (c) she is mad that I moved the litterbox downstairs and/or that I would not get up in the middle of the night and let her outside to pee.
Let me just say that I am not amused. Had to throw away my favorite feather pillow, start a load of laundry and take a shower in the wee hours of the morning, change the sheets, then go back to bed with sopping wet hair and try to get enough sleep to make it through another work day. Grumble, grumble, grumble…
Update 12/30/07 - She did have a urinary tract infection. After a few days on antibiotics, she seems to be feeling much better. And I haven't been peed on, which is always a plus.

Aren't cats fun? Hope she is ok though.
Loads.
At least she didn't piss on your head.
Sounds about like our old cat here - Gracie is 16 and a bit senile I do believe. She has moved her bathroom facility from the litter box to using the floor in the kitchen - generally either right in front of the sink or for piles, she usually selects the area in front of the stove. So far though, she hasn't gone on any furniture. Wonder if picking the area in front of the stove is a message to me about my cooking?
I don't know how you put up with those things...
Dern cat people anyway... ;)
wa11z - she kind of did, if hair counts.
jeni - that's odd, but at least it keeps the cleanup easier.
ll - there's always a downside to any relationship...
And the upside would be?
I dunno, I just love 'em.
My cat sleeps on my feet when I'm cold. And he's cute. And fuzzy. And he'd be dead if it weren't for me, so it's really all about me. ;)
My cat today left me a "present" by my bed. Stupid fur balls.
Just be thankful it wasn't pee. Mine barf up excess cat food all the time. It is more or less solid, so not a bother to clean up.
Last night, Freddie decided to leave the second floor room where we watch TV, go all the way down to the basement (in the dark) and pee. Didn't give any indication at all that he needed to go.
Grrr.
Maybe he didn't want to interrupt the show. At least he didn't pee on your head...
Glad to hear it was a solvable problem. One thing about those critters, they let you know when they're not happy about something. Zima's no dummy. She figured out the most expedient way to get you to act and fix her problem. Although extremely unpleasant for you in the short term, it got the job done.
