Schedule Conflict at Eight

Is it rude to check football scores during a live performance? What if you do it real quiet like?

During the heat of late summer, I received the annual mailer from Ferst Center for the Arts describing all of the performances of the 2009-2010 season. As usual, I looked it over to see if anything caught my eye. Noticed the "Third Annual Farewell Tour" improv performance by Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood on October 10 at 8:00pm. I cross check the football schedule (away game - no problem), ask PDM if he wants to go (sure), and I buy us some tickets. Then a couple of weeks ago the game time for GT at FSU is announced. October 10 at 8:00pm. Dammit, dammit, dammit.

My current plan is to surreptitiously keep tabs on the game using my iTouch and the wireless network. We'll beat it out of there as soon as the show ends and high tail it home. We can listen to it on the radio on the way. Hopefully we'll at least get to see the 4th quarter. And hopefully it will be worth watching. With all the drama this week over Bowden, I have no idea what to expect. We thought about going to a bar close to campus right after the show, but I figure most places will have Florida/LSU on their big screens. I don't want to drive around all night looking for the game.

Regardless of what happens tonight, one half of my "good college football weekend" is already in place. Georgia's defense actually made Crompton look like a good quarterback this afternoon.

Should have posted this earlier, you could have borrowed my phone and kept up via streaming.

It worked out OK -- when I checked the score at intermission we were in a long lightning delay. We heard the end of the 2nd quarter in the car and were home in plenty of time for the second half. Watching now. Nerve wracking, to say the least.

Wow, we won a shoot out!

Oh yeah, Colin and Brad put on an excellent show. Lots of laughs. It was a lot like Who's Line.... Except with mousetraps!

'Twas a good game. I didn't think GT was going to run it down their throats like they did. Pretty impressive.

I saw that score late last night and my first thought was Fermi's gonna be a happy camper! Football-wise, around here it was a good weekend too. Penn State beat Eastern Illinois (I think that's the name of the school. I'd never heard of it before this game season.) And our high school football team got their first win this year Friday night! Hip hip hooray!

LL - it was exciting, for sure. I'm glad we had a good second half and got the win. I watched the replay on ESPN360 this morning to catch up on the part I missed.

We need to get much better on D in a hurry because the VT game is next week.

Jeni - glad you were happy X 2!

I'd watch what you say about other teams' defenses. Tech should improve its defensive stats against Vanderbilt, who couldn't move the ball against Army. The GT-UGA game will probably look like a basketball score.

Jeni: I knew a number of people who went to Eastern Illinois. Therre's also Western Illinois, Northern Illinois, Southern Illinois, Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, Illinois State, Illinois College, and Illinois-Chicago. I may have missed one or two. It gets confusing after a while.

Dr S - I will freely admit that our defense is about as strong as a wet paper towel. I am worried about playing VT next Saturday, but hoping the home field advantage works some magic for us. Bobby Dodd Stadium will be rockin' and very loud for this game.

Wishing Vandy LOTS of luck against Georgia. They usually play them tough. May the good guys win!

well woman, there is life outside of football... ya know? glad you went to the improv EVEN if you cheated and checked scores on your phone! We got the Georgia game at Vandy this weekend.

Dr Jenn and Tiff - Life after football? Addicted? Ok, guilty. Also... Go Vandy!!!

Dave - Dunno. Work is kicking my ass. I came home and crashed today... hard. Sent PDM to the pub without me tonight. We've got a long, exciting day ahead of us tomorrow and I wanted to rest up for it (and get rid of this migraine I've had for two days).

at least you got to rest up for it. I had to drive before ours, got home, took a muscle relaxer, sat up and talked to Doc too late... went to bed and he was like a kid the next morning... time to get up... I made u coffee... girls are dressed and ready.... Really? LOL. GRRRRRRR

Dr Jenn - I developed a migraine again yesterday morning after being up for a few hours, even though I got rid of it the day before and didn't go out or have any alcohol Friday night. It was annoying. Took more drugs and it finally went away for good. There wasn't anything that was gonna keep me away from that game.
