Mojo

I'm superstitious about sports. Very superstitious. An otherwise rational person, I somehow can't shake the notion that what I do or wear can affect the outcome of a game. Yes, I am aware that it is silly. Doesn't matter. I've been known to change seating position, refill or not refill a drink, switch out cats, or go to another room, all because my team was doing so much better while something was different and I am trying to restore things back to good. It's all about mojo.

Which brings me to today. We have a big, BIG game tonight and it is going to be cold. Much of my cold weather Tech stuff has bad mojo for one reason or another. There is no freakin' way I can wear one stitch of the stuff I wore to the bowl game last year. Not even the shoes. Anything I wore to basketball games last winter is suspect as well. (I'm not sure if mojo crosses over between sports, but who wants to take that chance? It's bad enough that I suffered through such craptastical basketball once. I'm not going to let it ruin a perfectly good football performance.) So my choices are to wear warm weather stuff with good mojo and freeze, or find something warm that hasn't been tainted.

I've looked high and low and finally found a gold hoodie that hasn't been infected with any bad mojo. At least I think it hasn't. And I am asking the Football Gods: Please, oh please, let me keep it that way. No more bad mojo. That hoodie needs to be my new lucky shirt.

I was right, when I saw your comments at my place, I figured you had posted. Good luck with VTech, you need it.

I used to not believe in mojo. Until July 23rd.
I wore my Carl Crawford jersey t-shirt on the day that the Rays lost game 5 and the world series. It was a sad day for me. I had gotten so disillusioned from getting crap from Red Sox fans that after that night I put away my CC t-shirt. I finally brought it back out on July 23rd for no real known reason. That day Mark Beuhrle threw his perfect game against the Rays. The CC shirt is back to the bottom of the stack. I'm thinking about bringing it out in the off season, but I don't want something bad to happen to him. It sucks because I really liked that shirt.

One of my cousins and her husband are -like me -big Penn State fans and she decided a goodly number of years back that an absolute must on game days is that she prepare some dish containing salmon. And if that item is devoured before the end of the game and the tide needs shifting, she's been known to go to the kitchen and grab a can or a couple cans of salmon and then, they shake the salmon cans at the tv screen. I'm thinking this year that salmon thing hasn't been working to well though. Do whatever you feel you have to do to keep that Mojo going!

Dave - I know we will probably lose and I wish I could "not care", but I want to beat those guys so bad. Especially after reading their fan message board and seeing how cocky they are about it. They are already booking rooms in Pasadena!

Natalie - seems like it is always a favorite shirt that gets it. :-( I wore a brand new GT sweatshirt to the bowl game and now I can't wear it on game day ever again! Dammit. It's a nice shirt and I like the design. Too bad. Let me know if you figure out a way to change a shirt's mojo.

Jeni - it is amazing how we establish these rituals! But whatever works, right?

Virginia Tech is overrated. But I think Georgia Tech is overrated too, so I'm afraid I can't help you.

My football card can't believe Purdue beat Ohio State.

At seven minutes to go, I messed up your mojo by clicking the blog to tell you it was looking good. As I did it, the option recipient (?) fumbled. VTeck is now on your side of the field. Sorry. I'm sticking this out until, oh hell, you're still ahead.

That would be VTech.

Three minutes, not my fault if you lose now.

No luck needed.

Congratulations, your guys have made it through the rough part of your schedule.

Who wins a 3-way tie with GT, VT, and Miami? This appears to be a likely scenario.

BC - you need a lucky hoodie!

Dr S - that's why they play the games.

Davex4 - scary game at times, thanks to our turnovers, but it ended well. I don't have much of a voice left over...

Dr S - well, we've still gotta play out our conference games. The three way tie scenario is complicated, since the head-to-head games are all mixed. It could come down to who is ranked higher in the BCS. But if the runner up is within five (I think) places in the BCS then a bunch of other crazy things play in, up to and possibly including a coin toss. Messy! I'm not going to worry about it. Lots of games left and you never know what will happen. We go to UVa next week and we haven't won there since 1990 (and I still vividly remember that game - PDM and I watched it together). As Coach says, every time you win, the next game is bigger.

The boys did well. Might even keep Boise in the top 5 now.

Congrats VTech & Boise State!

LL - Thanks. Always helps when a higher ranked team goes down. Good luck to Boise State -- they will have something to prove in their bowl game, whichever one it is.

Debo - thanks (I am assuming you meant GT, not VT). I'd wish the Cowboys luck but I see they have a bye week today. And I can't wish 'em luck over the Falcons next week, but after that good luck - I pull for T. Choice to have great games.

blech... football I had enough of it out in the FREEZING cold yesterday! LOL. I didn't post a pic of our game or anything either... lmao. CONGRATS on the win!

oh and he has been converted he just don't admit it.

Dr J - football loyalties are deeply held, so lots of luck with your conversion. :-) It was really cold at our game and all day for tailgating. The cold mist we got in the first half didn't improve things. I wore five layers and bought a scarf before the game and didn't get too cold. We were standing up and jumping around a lot and that helped keep us warm. That place was ROCKIN'. Even the old farts were into it.
