Carded

We were up in north Georgia this past weekend for PDM's 25th year high school reunion. It was a casual affair - BYOB - so we stopped by the local liquor store first. Got carded. The clerk was visibly shocked when he looked at my license, and said so. Twas very flattering...

And strange when we got there, how varied a group of nearly-the-same-age folks could look. PDM still looks young for his age. Some of his classmates were not so lucky. It makes me wonder how much is luck or genetics, and how much is lifestyle. Neither of us smokes or gets much sun exposure, particularly on our faces. It seems to make a big difference.

I get carded fairly often. Big city stuff, I guess. They card everyone because they have to and they do not know you. Double-takes happen frequently - people do not seem to be expecting a birth year in the 60s.

I actually got carded more after I turned 21 than before...

At my 20th reunion therre were people who looked like someon's gramma, and some who hadn't aged a day.

I am someplace in between. Good for you that you're on the young end of the spectrum!

Carded!? what does it mean to be carded!? ;)

Hah, to Dianne's question/comment! Carded is something neither she nor I will ever have to even dream about, much less worry about ever again! My daughter, Mandy, who is 32 now, did get carded last year though. And what was she buying? Cigarettes, of course, for which you have to be at least 18!

I got carded for a movie once, in high school. Apparently I did not look like I was 17. I used to hate looking younger back then, but I kinda like it now!

I never ever ever bitch about being carded...ever.

Fermi - That reminds me of the time in college a friend and I were going to see an R rated movie (Mean Something). Anyway, the friend got carded and she was not pleased (she also didn't like being called cute, something I never ever bitch about since I have never been called that too much - is there really such a thing as being called attractive too much?). Anyway, I was rolling on the ground laughing at her being carded for a movie and that confused the ticket seller so much that he asked the person next to him if my friend looked old enough to get in. Uh yeah.

kat - I didn't appreciate it way back when. I don't mind now, except sometimes it causes delays - mostly in those stupid "self check" machines, which invariably make you show it to an attendant, if you can find one.
