Crate Training

...not just for dogs anymore.

Lets just say that we finally figured out how to have some peace and quiet in the wee hours of the morning.

I used a crate when Mia and Siren were first together, Mia didn't mind, siren lost his

so Mia stayed in
which automatically made siren calm down

how are they reacting?

We have farmed out two of the kittens so far, another is due to move by Monday evening and the fourth one and last one, we're not sure of whether we have a home for her yet or not. But, the way these two little beasties like to climb -everything and anything -their days here may just be spent in a crate too so we can still have screens in the windows and curtains left when they do leave! Sheesh! And then, Nina, the mother cat, apparently was searching/mourning for her two sons this week and she about drove me nuts, prowling around here in the dead of night and letting go with these god-awful howls! One night -about 2-3 a.m. -she was right beside the chair where I was parked and she let fly with this howl. I almost jumped completely out of my skin! She has improved a bit the past couple of days now though so maybe she's adjusted to the loss.

WOW. I was going to suggest a crate but you being an avid and experienced cat lover I thought I might offend you.

How is it working out?

Dianne - when PDM went to get him out of the crate, he had managed to move it to another location. I'd say he was not happy to be in there.

Jeni - awww, that is a sad momma cat. I hope they don't remember things like that too long. And yes, kittens can be energetic, can't they?

Red - I didn't want to do it, but he is really leaving us no choice. We are as cranky as people who have a newborn crying all night. I made sure he had peed and the food bowl was full. I cuddled him and that stopped it for a minute or two. I don't know what else to do for him to make him calm down. But we can't keep having him wake us up at 4:30am.

Hey, you. I finally updated my blog. I've never heard of crates for cats, but since I started working nights, I'd say anything that's good for getting sleep is just plain good.

no cat blogging today?

Hey Beth!!!! Good to see you.

Dr J - no time yesterday due to hosting a party. I took some photos, will try to get them on the blog soon. PDM has to get off the Mac before I can download and photoshop.

What the hell for? I was beginning to welcome the lack of cat pictures even though the tenor of this blog has gone decidedly cat as of late... ;)

LL - well, the blog's name is Cosmic Cat. You might expect a cat post or two...

General update: This morning, the mere threat of the cat carrier was enough to induce Silvio to behave himself. He started up at 5:45am. We put him in the litterbox to pee, then placed the cat carrier conspicuously by the back door. He didn't wake us again. Success!

And how is Silvio feeling about his crating?

BC - it was nice and low-key.

Kat - he's not a fan.
