The Road Less Traveled

open road

Went on a road trip last weekend with Mom. We visited Warm Springs and Pine Mountain/Callaway Gardens. There wasn't a convenient interstate route from A to B, and that was just fine with us. Our country road trip was very pleasant. Hardly another vehicle on the road. Slowed down a few times going through a small town, and there were some traffic lights here and there, but all in all it was an enjoyable journey.

The interstate might have saved us twenty or thirty minutes, but the trip would have been far less memorable. I'd rather enjoy the journey.

Try it sometime. You might be surprised.

But there is something enchanting about the two lane highways.

I have recently found that a lot of places in Georgia are far off the interstate. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Gee -looks almost like the roads at home here to me! Except I'm betting we have a lot lower temperatures.

LL - you don't have interstates out there in Bat Country?!?

Red - they have a lot more personality than the interstate. And yes, great poem.

dr s - some of the best places are off the beaten path.

Jeni - it was a hot weekend, that is for sure!

Dave - saw the butterflies, birds of prey, and lots of gardens. I only saw the golf course from the bike trail.

I am phobic of the interstate, thus all the road trips when I am the driver are on the state roads. Not to mention the scenery is better, and driving through the towns is usually entertaining and usually home to some excellent diners.

I travel the interstate often when I have to go across state. I only do that because I do have a deadline to be at point B. But then on the way back I take all the back roads. I dont like to drive highways because of the traffic. I prefer the road less traveled. And Im also the type to stop at the farmers markets and anything else of the sort along the way.
