Progress

porch seen from back yard
The porch has come a long way since I last blogged about it. The permit issues are all settled and it has passed the foundation and rough electrical inspections. Work proceeds apace and we come home to more progress every day. We've made all the many decisions that needed to be made - tile color and pattern, how to hang the doors, shingles, and paint color. Now we just watch the thing take shape day after day, looking forward to having it complete and ready to enjoy. As always, new photos get added every few days to this Flickr set.

I'm also making progress on a big project at work. Change is painful at times, and there are so many ramifications to think about when you work in healthcare and need/want to change the way you are doing things, but we are getting somewhere for our efforts. After some of the changes that we put in place today (a long, exhausting day), I am prepared to deal with no small amount of resistance from others tomorrow. It won't be fun, but if I can manage to bring a sense of humor to work, maybe I can get through it and make it more bearable for others.

Looks nice. It compliments the house well.

I want to come over. And drink wine on your new deck.

I'll be posting before and after photos of my house projects too.

The addition looks to be shaping up really nice. Won't be long and you'll actually be enjoying it too.

Good luck with your work project too -hope things all pan out to the best in all respects.

Wow! There's a lot more progress than I initially thought, and it looks great!

I hope you and PDM have already sat out there and enjoyed an evening or two with some wine, while looking at the trees and discussing the finer details of your new addition.

P.S. I don't understand how I didn't see this series of photos on your Flickr account before. Did you add them lately and just backdate them? Or am I just not paying attention as well as I thought I was?

What a nice-sized new space. I love it!

I'll bring beer, Sunshine can bring the wine.

ll - Thanks! We definitely wanted the roof gabled to match the architecture of the house.

sunshine - you're invited! Red or white?

jeni - can't wait! The work thing is in a bumpy stage, but things will settle down soon enough.

mw - gee, I don't know how you could miss a few porch photos tucked into my photostream along with dozens of my nature photos. :-) There was a lull in the progress due to the inspections, but now they're going gangbusters.

beth - come on over!

If I didn't have a sense of humor when I went to work, they would drive me insane.

I'll bring some meat for the grill.

Oooh, I love it! Looks beautiful. You and PDM (and the kitties!) are in for many wonderful evenings sitting out there. What can I bring? A pitcher of margaritas, perhaps?

Same viewpoint, after dark with interior lights on, might make an even better picture. Real wood ceiling?

dr s - you bring the meat. We'll fire up the grill.

magnetbabe - margaritas are perfect!

dave - real wood, yes. It will be painted soon. I'll try your photo suggestion once it is finished and has lights of its own.

No paint, stain. That said thinking of the photo. The interior light would light the wood. That said, I love natural wood. Paint gets in the way of its beauty.

I'm a bit confuzzled though...

What type of screening is this going to have? I can't figure out why they'd insulate the roof if it's going to be an outdoor porch... unless it's just for one of those "if you ever decide to" type things...

bc - uh huh, and since I have a notebook computer, it can be blogging central!

ll - your thoughts are correct; the unnecessary work was done so that this could be made into a sunroom at a later date. In addition to the insulated ceiling, the footings are sized to handle the weight of a finished room instead of just a porch.
