A Winkin' Kitty!
Happy Friday, everyone! This Friday CatBlogging post is dedicated to the original winkin' kitty. I'm sure she'd like it if you check out her new book lover's forum: Cyber City Bibliotheca. No doubt you'll recognize a few familiar screen names over there.
I'm exhausted from herding cats - figuratively at work, and literally at home (if two cats counts as a "herd"). The project I am involved with at work has to do with electronic medical records, and while we are evaluating paperless radiation therapy documentation, the physicians who are piloting this new system have to do it the new way AND the old way. Keeping track of them and making sure both get done (and match each other) is like herding cats. Add to that the changes that we are making in how the physics staff uses some the software applications, and you have a recipe for barely controlled chaos while we're sorting it all out. And a ton of extra work.
And at home, they've been painting the new porch this week. Guess where Zima and Moxy like to hang out now? You got it -- the new porch railings. So when we let them out in the evening, one of us has to stay with them and attempt to keep them away from the freshly painted porch. Now that Moxy has discovered that one of our birdhouses is occupied, we have a hard time keeping her out of that as well. Keeping two determined cats from going where they want to go in an open yard is a difficult assignment.

Oh lovely winkin' kitty. And the sheer curtains with the trees behind makes the photo even more pretty.
as far as I'm concerned 2 cats is a herd, sometimes 1 cat is a herd.
Mandy was walking by me just as your blog and the "winking kitty" opened up and of course, the cat picture definitely pulled her in for a closer look and a little giggle. She felt the cat was just saying "So, look at ME!" Could be! And keeping cats out of trouble, harm's way and the like, it definitely a fulltime job in itself! Little Jorge's wailing and moanings of a few weeks back, and the escape she also made a couple days running then from the house I think have netted her the status of impending parenthood, unless my guess is incorrect there -and I really hope I'm wrong cause I REALLY don't want to deal with kittens along with the two kids here too! Oh well, Mandy keeps telling me it will be ok, all will be fine. Easy for her to say.
Sheesh... I thought one winkin' kitty was bad enough...
Besides... decks were made to be stained, not painted. Although I'm going to withhold my final decision until I see the pics.
dianne - I have three cats total, but they don't seem so herd-like in the house.
jeni - I hope you are wrong about the prospective kittens. I got Moxy and Silvio from the Atlanta Humane Society, and they won't release an animal until it is spayed or neutered. So I didn't have to go through all the "pleasures" of a cat in heat.
LL - I agree that stain is for decks, but we're building a porch. Porches around here are usually painted to match the house. The deck (to be built later) will be stained. The good news is that the porch is supposed to be ready in about a week!
I'm anxiously waiting for pictures of the finished deck. Complete with feline decorations, of course!
I just caught up on your blogs I missed. Glad I did as I'm still chuckling over the ugly ass naked photo sent to you via cellphone.
I'm sure this winkin' kitty photo is MUCH better. Too cute.
Good to hear from you, Beth. Yes, the winkin' Zima is WAY better than the naked butt photo.
The hospital where I worked was in the process of doing paperless charting. The Drs. had the worst time with it, as a matter of favt one retired cause he refused to participate.
I love this picture!!
I cant wait to see the finished porch. I do agree with it being stained though. I like the look of the matching paint for the house/porch look but the upkeep is horrible. Not many people can walk on the side of your house. Touchups are a pain.
With mine, it's keeping them out of the big walk-in closet where I keep the yarn. The second I open the door, Igor is in there and then he disappears into boxes and whatnot. I find the fastest way to get him out is to close the door. He's ready to come out right away then.
Heeh. ;D
