A Good Start

Walking into the clinic this morning, I see one of the facilities guys in the hallway. He is laughing it up with the person who is stocking the vending machine there. I'm bordering on late, but I slow down to say hello.

"Hey, Burt! How's it goin'?"

"Better now!"

I grinned all the way to my office, a new spring in my step. Great way to start a work day. Makes me want to "pay it forward" and put a smile on someone else's face tomorrow.

Sadly, he didn't offer.

You should've asked. They always have extras layin' around.

Aw, drat and rats! This entry is normally the sort that just begs for a silly comment from the likes of me! But I just cannot do it! ;-) I know exactly what you mean and how you felt. It truly is the little (but, oh so meaningful) moments like that one that matter.

I had a similar "moment" a couple of weeks ago, but I'm such a lost cause these days that..., well..., sigh...

I think the springs in my steps need to be replaced.

Some people are infectiously friendly. Burt is like that, and he is far from the only one at work. We have some fantastic people who are very good at making our patients feel comfortable, more at ease at a very stressful time and happier.

I'd like to be more like those people, but it is not my nature to be so outgoing with people I don't know well. It takes a while for me to come out of my shell.

Isn't it amazing and wonderful how a little exchange can just make the day. I love the entire concept of "pay it forward" and I try really hard to practice what I preach.

cheers to Burt :)

It is amazing though how sometimes just a smile from someone will make a person feel so much better about life, the day, everything! I do try to at least smile at folks, whether I know them or not, whether we communicate at all or not and sometimes though, do end up speaking, even joking a little bit. Thanking folks when they hold a door open for me or some other small gesture of politeness being recognized always makes me feel better too. Lots of little things more than big stuff really but it seems the little stuff is what really makes a difference.
