Today is PDM's birthday.
His age?
I'll give you a hint (this one's a gimme for you science fiction fans): It's the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything.
If you're not a sci-fi fan and are curious to know the answer, you can find out here.

Worried

Zima's not acting like herself lately. She's keeping to herself more, and eating less. It could be her unhappiness at the new kitty, and there is a neighborhood cat who has been getting in her face outside, but it could be something more serious. I need to take her to the vet for some bloodwork. I'm worried.

Doctor Who and Cuban Pork Roast
Another weekend bites the dust. It started out pretty good: left work at 3:55pm on Friday guilt-free, then made it to the pub early enough to see the old guys who come in for happy hour. Got caught up with a girlfriend who I haven't seen in a month and chatted with a few of the other regulars. Then it was off to Mellow Mushroom for a medium pizza with pepperoni, sausage, onion and jalapeño to go. We timed it so that we'd be home for the season three (US) premier of Doctor Who, and we were already stocked up with wine and beer for the event.
Saturday was kind of "blah". I read a lot (but not the newspaper, which apparently I neglected to renew our subscription for - oops), took a nap, and played with the cats.
Today I went into work to do some of the annual testing on the linear accelerator ("linac") - it has to be done after hours when there are no patients being treated. I got a decent chunk of it done. I'm working tomorrow evening and might be caught up with the annual as much as is possible for now. In return for working two of the last three weekends, I am taking Friday off.
While I was working, PDM was in the kitchen going through a trial run with a new recipe - Cuban pork roast. It took him 8 hours start to finish, not counting the 24-hour soak in a brine solution. We're making this and lots of other yummy Caribbean-themed dishes next weekend for our summer cookout and needed to know how long it takes and whether or not the recipe needs any adjustments. Taste testing is a tough job, but somebody's gotta do it. And I am happy to report that it was very good. PDM served it up with "mo jo sauce", black beans, jalapeño cheddar cornbread, and plantain chips. Hungry now?

The Big Honkin' First Blog-O-Versary Post
It has been one year since I started the blog one evening on a whim. I believe there was some alcohol involved. Shocking, no? All of you who not only stop in here on a regular basis, but who take the time to comment, are the reason I am still writing posts a year later. It wouldn't be fun and interesting without you. I mean, come ON! Someone's got to come up with good content, and it usually isn't me. It started with a few people that I knew from the old 'Frell Me Dead' Farscape message board, and through the magic of links and getting to know your commenters, it eventually grew to a damn good set of regulars. So today I am giving a shout out to everyone who has ever contributed a comment here. THANKS!

Quick Cat Update
Zima's voice is back. Meow!
Moxy seems ever-so-slightly less concerned about Silvio, but still follows him around all the time.
Silvio is having a blast when we let him roam the house, even with Moxy following him around and occasionally whapping him with her paw for no good reason. The good news is that he hasn't peed on the bed again. The bad news is that he barfed on it last night, much to PDM's dismay (it was his turn to sleep with the little guy). Kids...

Hard Times in the Cat House
All is not well in the house of three cats.

Silvio is a cute little guy, but it was not very cute when he peed on the bed this morning. On the quilt that I made for PDM by hand. That is not all that washable. *sigh*

Zima has lost her voice. Friday she could say "Meow." By Sunday all she could do was croak a staccato "Maa." I took her to the vet today. There was no obvious cause, so we have to watch her over the next few days.

Moxy is very unsettled. She "plays with" Silvio, sort of. But mostly she watches his every move like a hawk. I don't think she cares much for being a "middle child". She is curious and interested in Silvio, but jealous at the same time.

Job Opening
Male? Unemployed? Willing to relocate? Have I found the job for you!
India (yes, the country) is looking for just the right guy to be their very own Mr. Condom. You should have a dynamic personality, enjoy talking about sex, and have a passion for promoting condom use. Having a taste for curry is a plus. Any takers?
