Looking for love in all the wrong places.

Day 50 - Visitor

A strange male has been hanging around outside my house.

This tomcat hasn't figured out that my two spayed females will NEVER be interested in him. He's trying very hard -- strutting around, marking territory, trying his best pickup lines on the girls. Zima is surprisingly tolerant of his presence. No fighting yet. I think Moxy would kick his ass if we let her out. Since we don't, she can only glare at him from the windows or the porch. That leaves Silvio to defend his territory alone. He's not having such a great time with it. They mostly have loud confrontations rather than actual fights, but Silvio never seems to get the advantage. His chief strategy seems to be finding new and creative places to hide. At least there has been no bloodshed.

Maybe Romeo will find a willing female elsewhere in the neighborhood and move on. He's a friendly guy. Handsome, too. I wouldn't mind him being around, except for his caterwauling and spraying.

Hammock Time

Hammock Time

I'd forgotten how nice the hammock can be on a mild winter day. It is the perfect vantage point to see all the bird action in the trees. There are no leaves to hide the birds and the feeder is nearby, which guarantees a lot of activity. And best of all, there are no bugs in the dead of winter, even on a warm day. It was a great spot to relax after an afternoon of yard work. Zima hopped on for a spell and kept me company.

Keep Your Claws Sharp

Day 38 - Outside

Silvio, stropping his talons of doom.

He'll have more fun outside this weekend. Looks like we're finally going to get a break from winter, with sunny skies and a high near 60F. First decent weekend forecast all year.

Good Little Rover

The Mars Rover Spirit is currently parked for the winter. Opportunity has been exploring a rock formation called the Chocolate Hills.

Encore tomorrow night?

That's what the weather report says. Another inch on Sunday night will make Monday's commute oh so fun. Nothing creates panic like an inch of snow in Hotlanta. *sigh*

Happy Birthday, Mom

Hi Mom! Happy Birthday. Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow.

And since it is Friday, here is a portrait of Silvio for your viewing pleasure:

Silvio

Isn't he handsome?

I'll believe it when I see it.

1-2" of snow are predicted for the Atlanta area tomorrow. Time for pandelerium! The grocery stores will be mobbed tonight, with not a loaf of bread or gallon of milk to be found. Mark my words.

Yellow Line to Doraville

I have to admit that this particular objection to the renaming of our subway lines had never crossed my mind. And isn't that a good thing? My brain just isn't wired like that. The only complaints I've read until today concerned spending (wasting?) money just to redo all the signage and such. I guess we'll soon see them spending (wasting?) even more money to change "yellow" to some less offensive color description. But wouldn't "gold" offend the UGA fans? Just asking. Don't want to have to paint everything a third time.

Worst. Invention. Ever.

The "panic button" on my car remote. I trigger that damn thing by simply looking at it the wrong way. Startling. Embarrassing. Irritating. I hate it.

It happens a LOT.

Is there a way to disable it? Seriously. Does anybody know?

If there isn't an official way, I am sure I can devise a duct tape solution that might even allow me to trigger it on purpose if there was an actual emergency, but would prevent the accidental discharge (so to speak). Not a very elegant fix, but whatever shuts it up.

Turning the corner

Day 26 - Signs of Life

Can you believe it's already February? I'm never sorry to see January go.

This forsythia bush always jumps the gun on spring and blooms very early. It was no surprise to notice some tiny yellow flowers beaming through the cold and gloomy weather we've been having. It looks a little bit out of place, but all the same I am glad to see it. The rest of the yard will catch up.
