After five and a half years, my old laptop has developed a hardware problem that I can't fix. It is at the shop for triage. For now, we're down to one computer. Gulp.
My presence on the internet might be limited for a week or two.
I hate when things like that happen! 'Cept in my case, I'd really be dead in the water since this computer is the ONLY one here now! Hope this baby NEVER dies! And I hope it doesn't cost you an arm and a leg to get back to being a two-computer family again!
Dave - exactly! PDM decided I can get the Macbook as his Christmas present, even if I will be using it a lot. Should be easier to have the computers "see" each other on the home wireless and may be a better situation than the mixed household.
LL - the shop knows how much I'm willing to spend to fix the problem. If it will cost more than that, their job turns into a data recovery mission. That computer isn't worth much at this point, but it is convenient as an internet portal. And no worries on the catblogging -- I usually do that from PDM's Mac anyway. Sorry! :ewink:
Jeni - it is nice to have spares. I have a very old desktop PC that I disconnected from the internet because Windows kept wanting to upgrade and every time it messed it all up. I could use that in a pinch. Otherwise I am at PDM's mercy and can use the Mac when he isn't using it.

Mac time.
What? Does that mean none of the threatened cat-blogging? Oh... the tragedy of it all...
Hope you make it out of the shop in good financial shape.
