Belly and Bones (and Maybe a Stone)

CAT RT LAT

This is a lateral x-ray view of Silvio's big fat belly. He may possibly have a small stone in his bladder (visible as a very faint brighter area in the anterior bladder). That would be bad news, so lets hope not.

Today just bit it, coming and going. Silvio vomited several times during the night, waking us up. I woke up with "the trifecta" - migraine, cramps, upset stomach. Had to be at work at 6:30am for a meeting at which I needed to be functioning on all cylinders, after being there until after 7pm the night before. This afternoon I left (still in migraine hell) to take Silvio to the vet so they could try to figure out why he is still having so much trouble with peeing. Thus the x-ray. And just a few minutes ago I sent PDM to the pub without me. I took enough drugs to feel slightly better, but I really need to crash for a few hours with my ice pack and then eat.

But I couldn't let down the masses (all six of you). Friday catblogging (now in kV!) is back.

Well, it is cat blogging. My best for your and Silvio's quick recoveries.

yea, cat guts! I bet LL will be thrilled.

Hey the headache is no joke, that is how this puking virus started with all us us, a killer diller headache like behind the eyes and across the forehead.

Dave - thanks. The peeing problems have us at wit's end. I feel sorry for Silvio, but at the same time it really sucks to be cleaning up after him.

Red - no telling what LL will think. As for my headache, no mystery there, and no strange illnesses. It is the regularly scheduled monthly migraine.

Ohhh I hate those migraines. You end up sitting in a dark room and crying because you want to take a drill into your forehead.

I feel bad for both of you with poor kitty. Always remember that its not his fault and that he loves you.

Mandy can empathize with you on the migraines but I'm lucky, never had a problem with them. Have enough other aches and pains and sure don't need one in my head! But, having had a urinary tract blockage that required surgery, I can truly empathize with poor Silvio and his woes! Hope they find out what's happening and get it fixed for him (and you) soon!

No matter how you slice it... it's still a damn cat... ;)

I'm really sorry Silvio is still having so many problems and hope you (and PDM) are taking it easy today. I hope they find why he still having trouble and can fix it with minimal treatment.

On the upside, awesome catblogging photo. It please the cat lover and science geek in me.

I admire your dedication. You really are a trooper! If it were me, the regular blog post would have been the first to go. We all have a lot to aspire to. Here's hoping for the best possible outcome for both Silvio and you.

Best wishes to Silvio - I hope it isn't a stone.

There's seven of us, whether LL cares to admit it or not...

BC - I didn't get rid of that damn migraine until this morning! The cat situation is frustrating, but I try not to take it out on him.

Jeni - ouch. I've had UTIs, but nothing that needed surgery. Just sulfa drugs.

LL - pfftphfthphft.

Natalie - thanks. The vet gave me a CD with his x-rays on it to give to the other vet he will see next week (for an ultrasound to look for stones). I didn't know what format they'd be in, so I popped it into the computer to check. They were jpgs. Easily postable, and it was Friday, so why not?

TheWriteGirl - I couldn't resist posting his x-ray for Friday catblogging and it wasn't too much trouble.

dr s - thanks, and I will keep y'all (6 or 7) posted. The vet gave him some pills that are supposed to help reduce irritation and they are also are mildly tranquilizing. Due to both effects, Silvio has seemed more comfortable and more mellow this weekend.

I am going to join Fermi in a "pfftphfthphft" salute to LL, any one else?

Oh, poor kitty. Poor Fermicat! Hope all is much better today.

any updates on Silvio?

fermicat said...

Update? Sure. Between work and dealing with Silvio, it has been one hell of a week already!

Silvio went back to the vet who did his PU surgery to get an ultrasound. He definitely had bladder stones. They flushed a whole bunch of 1-2mm stones out with saline. He is back home now, and seems to be doing pretty good. They will send the stones out for testing. When we know what kind they are, that will direct how to manage his treatment.

Natalie said...

I'm glad they flushed them out! I hope they aren't anything too serious and it's either a one time thing or easily managed. I know I've said it before, but especially in this economy, he is such a lucky guy to have you and PDM looking after him.

Jenn said...

thanks fermi - it will get better! It has too!

Sucks that such small stones have such huge impact. Hooray for him doing better!

Kathleen said...

Oh, please keep us posted on Silvio's diagnosis. Stones are so not a good thing.

Wow, I didn't know they could flush them out. That's helpful.
