Winter Storm Warning

Looks like it's for real this time. Our storm watch is now a warning. Rain, sleet, snow, freezing rain... you name it, we got it on tap in the overnight forecast. I know it isn't a big deal to many of you in the un-southern parts of this country, but this kind of dire prediction causes all hell to break loose down here, and that's before we see one speck of whatever-it-is that they're predicting. You couldn't pay me to go near a grocery store tonight. Pure pandemonium.

It won't bother me at all if we wake up tomorrow to an ice storm. In fact, as long as we don't have a tree fall on the house, I'd welcome the chance to turn the alarm off and go back to sleep.

Update (6:20am 2/1): Wrong again! Woke up this morning to 33 F and heavy rain (which is high on the list of my least favorite type of weather). The weather people aren't doing so great this winter. So far, they are 0-for-2 with the winter storm predictions. I guess I have to go get ready for work now.

Good thinkin'!

We still have a ton of beer and wine left over from the party, so we're all set.

They're predicting two inches of snow for us tonight; I'm glad tomorrow's a day off so I can stay home and enjoy it.

Snow is not totally unknown in Nashville. When I moved here I was surprised that the city had no snow removal equipment. But they have a saying around here, "God brought it, and God will melt it".

Woo hoo! Be sure to have a big cup of hot chocolate for me.

Ice storms here just make it more slippery on our way to work. Until it starts bringing down power lines, of course.

It's snowing here. By tonight, we're supposed to have -34 windchill. Can I come stay with you?

No.

Oh... were you talking to fermi? Whoops... my bad. :ewink:

It's funny how we're all a bit surly since we had to come into work. I was not alone in expecting at least a few hours off today.

Trin - sure thing! We've got movies and beer, but no snow. You can leave that -34 stuff at home though.

Dr. S - How did it go? Got snow?

Fermi, we got nuttin'. Some of the counties closer to the Alabama border reported accumulations of one and two inches. The winter storm, such as it was, seems to have slipped between our observation stations.

It's still cold enough tonight to stay inside, watch movies, and drink beer.

We're due for an inch or two of snow tonight into tomorrow morning, then changing to rain. Perfect! I have to drive to an meeting out of the office tomorrow morning, right at rush hour. Normally I take public transporation, but of course tomorrow I can't. It's going to be a mess. Without traffic, this drive would take me maybe 20 minutes. Of course there's never no traffic, but tomorrow I'm figuring at least twice that. Grrrr!

They're predicting 1-2" of snow tonight. We'll get it, because we always get it when I have symphony tickets. I'm beginning to think I'm jinxed with regard to symphony tickets. Stupid weather.

The weekend is supposed to be in the single digits. I won't be leaving the house.

I'm so used to crap weather due to where I live, but I've seen footage of warmer areas that even just received a small snowfall. Total chaos. It's like everyone collectively says, "Oh, white stuff, yeah, I can still drive normally and then slam on my brakes when that strategy falls through."

writegirl - bummer. Look out for idiots (and transplanted southerners).

Kat - perhaps you should try summer concerts. Or would that bring on tornados?

Beth - I used to wish I could put a warning label across the back of my car when I lived in New England. It would simply say "caution: southern driver". I couldn't believe how fast people would drive during snowstorms, and tailgate other cars.

Fermi - The summer concert schedule conflicts with my racing schedule.
