A massive spider web has been found in a Texas park. The freakishly large web densely covers the foliage along a 200-yard section of trail.
"Spider experts say the web may have been constructed by social cobweb spiders, which work together…"
Could be. Or maybe it’s Shelob. Creepy.
Oh crap. Oh dear goodness no. that's farking creepy, that is.
ReplyDeleteAnd you know what? As far as I know, entomologists don't study spiders. Arachnologists do.
Gah!
I'm fascinated by spider webs, and enjoy photographing them (see my latest here). But I don't want them touching me. Ewww. Gross. And creepy. Ick, ick, ick!!
ReplyDeleteOh fermi... that reminds of a little poem I used to tell Whosie...
ReplyDeleteSpiders crawling everywhere,
on your neck and in your hair!
Doesn't that make you feel all warm inside? ;)
You're not funny, LL.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to go brush my hair about a hundred times now.
Wha?
ReplyDeleteStrangely enough... that was Whosie's general reaction too.
The article I read quoted some scientist type who said that these webs aren't that rare really...I didn't memorise the whole thing. I thought it was kind of cool, although I found the statement about hearing the screams of a million mosquitoes a little eerie.
ReplyDeleteYuck yuck yuck yuck yuck. No sigh of Shelob?
ReplyDeleteHaven't seen her... but I have been trying and trying to photograph a ginormous spider who has built a huge orb web in my back yard. The silly thing is shy. Every time I go out there with my camera, it scuttles away into a tree or plant to hide. It is an interesting looking spider, with a large, fat, round, hairy abdomen and it is about the circumference of a quarter. Mostly brown with some red markings. I have a few photos but they are all blurry.
ReplyDeleteThat probably came from the one that lives in my bathroom. Ive named him Godzilla. He creeps me out and Im sure the neighbors hear me screaming.
